Personally I would go for the 2nd option of actually building and owning my own shed because, I like the easy access of my things in comparison to renting out a storage unit. You have to pick the one that is going to actually be most suited to your personal needs. From experience I can tell you that the two options that I've given you here are the ones that will provide the most benefit.
