Keep Your Bathtub Looking Great

by Scott Rodgers

Let's face it, most people completely adore their baths. Baths have a way of bring relief to tired bodies and minds. In this day and age it is definitely worth you considering not taking a bath every day because they tend to consume a significant amount of power and water, but as a really special treat, there is nothing like easing out in your bath occasionally and totally forgetting about the worries of the day.

This is especially the case if there are youngsters in your house. When the day has finished, and the little beauties are asleep in their own beds, a bath is certainly a well deserved really special treat.

So you need to make sure it is well looked after. Even though it appears to be so sturdy, as if nothing can go wrong, there are going to be a number of things that can go wrong with a bath.

It could be that one morning you pull out the plug and the water doesn't empty as speedily as it does normally. Do look out for this. In your sometimes frantic lifestyle it is possible to only shrug away the problem and be tempted to forget it.

But no, this is a tell-tale sign that there might be a blockage of some kind in your drains and if you do something as soon as possible, you will be able to dispense of the blockage before it builds into something noticeable and you need to get in a plumber.

Do your best not to use chemicals as they are not good for the environment. The eaiest solution is three cups of boiling water and baking soda, or vinegar and baking soda. Either of these will get rid of the blockage if the water is merely slowing the water down, rather than not going down at all. If it is not going down into the plug hole at all then use washing soda. If none of these solve the problem, then ring your local plumber who will be able to look at other potential causes such as blockages in multiple drains or blockages in exterior drains.

Another commonplace problem to keep an eye on is a leaking faucet. Do attend to this as soon as possible because there is a chance that it is merely the washer that needs to be substituted. Only remember to turn off the water supply prior to removing the faucet.

Faucets work because the water is pressurised and if you take off the faucet prior to turning off the water, the water will shoot at an unexpected speed, at first straight up at you, and then everywhere in the bathroom.

If the washer is worn away, then you may easily enough replace it. However, if it is not the washer and you aren't experienced at repairing taps, then give your local plumber a call because they can fix the faucet without causing any further damage.

You might have a hairline crack. Again, deal with this immediately, in the same way as you would a crack in your car windscreen. Don't let it to become a possibly bigger problem as a hairline crack can be fixed comparatively easily enough and without too great a cost.

The bath in itself might begin to get somewhat damaged. This is all too often possible if you have a lot of people in your house. Little youngsters adore to play in baths, and adore to use all kinds of playthings which have sharp edges which can, over a period of time, chip off and scratch the surface of the bath.

This can even take place in your beloved porcelain bath. Fortunately, resurfacing a bath is a possibility. Have a talk among your neighbours and see if someone has had theirs done recently. It's often a good idea to deal with a company which has a good reputation. Nowadays new techniques for refinishing and reglazing are more effective than they were a few years ago. And what's even better, it might merely take a day or so to get it done, which means you will be reunited with your beloved bath in virtually no time at all.

In conclusion, your bath, as is the case with household appliances, can be used for a number of years, as long as you often test it and make an investment in fixing or refinishing it prior to it getting too late and repairs have become more costly than they would have been had you done the job immediately. And do attempt to remember the environment because any chance of you limiting your useage of water and electricity will help preserve our planet for the the next generation. Maybe you might even cut down on the number of baths you have and have showers daily, and a bath as a really special treat only every so often.
