What a rip---you are a new mother finally, and now all you can see in the mirror is the overweight you, having to lose all that pregnancy weight. 10-15 pounds of postpartum weight are usually retained by the new mother after she has delivered, and this should not be a worrisome thing, it is quite normal. What happens now. If you want anything to happen now as far as weight loss after pregnancy; you have to stop moping around and get the lead out...get busy working on a plan.

Losing weight is one of the hardest things that a person can face; but if you get your desire worked up, get with your doctor and have a good dietary plan under your belt that contains exercises, and then you are ready to get rid of those unwanted pounds. This plan is only as good as the amount of effort you put into it and behind it; it will never happen if you don't get motivated and get moving.

Remember that this will take time and take effort for you to pull it off; just don't succumb to the tempting ploys of the quick weight loss gurus that want you to buy their products and turn into a slimmer, fitter you after a few weeks...that's malarkey. A rapid weight loss after pregnancy is nuts; your body is not ready for that and it is dangerous.

Your body goes through a lot when you are pregnant; lots of hormonal swings, highs and lows; the trauma of birth and the strain of breastfeeding; so treat it with kid gloves and go easy now that you are postpartum. Respect your body's natural limits when it comes to recovering from pregnancy; don't succumb to the quickie weight loss plans, that's not smart. 9 mos. is what you should aim for in dropping the weight and do it slowly, Seems only fair that if it was a 9 month process to get that weight on your bones; then, should be 9 mos. coming off.

The baby must be fed as soon as he is delivered, so Mother Nature has devised a way for that to happen; you gain weight during pregnancy so that you have plenty of nutrition stored up physically to be given to the baby as food in the form of breastfeeding. You, as the new mother, must have a good support system nutritionally to be able to breastfeed the baby and be the sole support nutritionally for the baby. The baby is developed and has been born, and is now being weaned from breastfeeding; so the weight you have been carrying is not useful any longer, and the body begins to shed it gradually and naturally. A great deal of the postpartum weight lost by most new mothers, was lost after the weaning of the baby had taken place.

Recent studies on breastfeeding mothers show that nearly 700 calories are burned per day. This is something that should be taken into consideration when you talk about weight loss after pregnancy, because it could be a major player in that arena. How much exercise you are getting can be just as important a factor in maximizing a weight loss plan; just like a good dietary eating plan and all the scores of other factors that make a difference when combined.

Let's be serious here; you want to stick with a weight loss plan that will give you maximum results gradually, but provide sound nutrition while you are breastfeeding and taking care of the baby. Being up to par is the most important factor here; your baby depends on you for his very life and well being and you cannot provide that if you are not healthy yourself. You should be following a workable daily routine so you will keep on with it and not give up; and get the maximum health benefits from it. That wonderful plan could be the cat's meow, but if it's not a good fit, and you don't like it; then where does that get you. Do your homework where your plan is concerned, then all will be okay and you can enjoy your new baby and your new life.
