The elements can do a lot of damage to your hair, especially the sun, but also regular tap water. It's not always possible to completely protect your hair from such damage, but you can minimize it a lot by properly nourishing your hair. Besides good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, you can also nourish your hair by using natural oils. Natural hair oils are traditionally used in many countries around the world as hair masks. You will need to find good quality oils, cold-pressed and preferably organic. Refined oils that are commonly found in stores don't have the same nourishing properties as cold-pressed oils.

Why are natural oils so beneficial for your hair? Besides the benefits of each particular type of oil, natural plant-based oils' main benefit is that they prevent oxidative stress. Free radicals are not only responsible for damaging skin cells or other type of cells in our body, but also for premature gray hairs and damaged hair. Natural oils can protect your hair from free radical damage to some extent. However, getting enough nutrients that are essential for fighting free radicals is also part of the equation.

What natural oils can you apply for damaged or colored hair? Coloring your hair, using many chemical styling products, unhealthy shampoos and other outside factors can cause a lot of hair damage. There are a few natural oils that you can use for damaged and colored hair. You need to use them at least once a week. Apply the oil to the full length of your hair, especially covering the roots and scalp skin. It is advisable to leave the oil mask on during the night (10-12 hours or more) while covering the hair with a towel or plastic foil. You can leave the mask on for shorter time periods, but for at least 3-4 hours. You can also mix the oils together, or you can mix them with 1-2 egg yolks if you want to make the mask more nourishing. In this case, leave the mask on only for 2-3 hours. The following natural oils are great for treating damaged hair:

1. Castor oil - also a great hair loss remedy 2. Olive oil - can be added to hair dyes 3. Almond oil

What natural oils are good for oily hair? You might be surprised, but using oil masks on oily hair is not going to make it oiler. Some natural oils are actually ideal for regulating the sebum production. Since too much skin oil leads to an extremely oily scalp and hair, making sure that the scalp skin is healthy is essential. Besides hormonal issues, many products you use can be the cause of extremely oily hair. Shampoos that are used too frequently or that have harmful chemicals and improper pH levels are usually the main cause behind oily hair. Using a natural oil hair mask that has astringent properties is ideal for oily hair. The hair mask will be applied to the whole length of the hair, but especially to the roots. Leave it on for 3-4 hours before washing your hair. Also, it is important to use an organic shampoo (home-made is best) suitable for oily hair, 2 times per week only. More frequent hair washing will make your hair oilier. Here are 4 great oils that can sooth your oily scalp:

1. Jojoba oil - one of the best oils for oily hair and skin 2. Argan oil 3. Tea tree oil - combine a few drops with a base oil such as argan or jojoba oil 4. Burdock oil - also combine with a base oil

What natural oils can moisturize dry hair? Dry hair is a common problem for many people. It can be even more concerning than oily hair because it can lead to damaged hair over time. Dry hair can break very easily, and it can also cause hair thinning if left untreated. Causes of dry hair include: a diet poor in nutrients (especially essential fats and proteins from animal sources: butter, ghee, lard, eggs and meat), chemical and thermal treatments (hair dying, hair straightening etc.), stress and an unhealthy lifestyle in general (smoking, drinking, medications etc.). Natural oils can be used as hair masks in the same way as explained for damaged hair. They can keep the scalp hydrated and provide essential nutrients for your skin. Use them at least 1-2 times per week for as long as needed (usually 2-3 months). Here are the 4 best types of oils to use for dry hair:

1. Sandalwood oil - Combine a few drops with a base oil like olive almond or argan 2. Sesame oil 3. Argan oil 4. Bay leaf oil - Also combine with a base oil

In conclusion, natural oils can be of great help for all hair types and hair issues. They also stimulate hair growth, especially if you use warm oil when you apply it to the roots. Hair issues like dandruff, scalp psoriasis, scalp eczema, itchy and dry scalp, can also be treated by using these amazing hair oils.
