The Reason Many Drug Rehab Programs Fail

Cognitive Restructuring is More Successful than Drug Rehab Programs

by Larry Lloyd

Many Drug rehab programs are unsuccessful since their curriculum is weak. The program is missing the necessary energy and knowledge that is required to help people overcome addictions. A drug addicted person's cells are subtonically loaded with each drugs DNA signature. The addicted becomes wholly addicted: mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

All people has a physical self and the ego self (mental, emotional, spiritual). Starting at birth there's a permanent struggle between the flesh and its wants. Those who have a weak ego generally have low self-mastery. They have a hard time resisting the addictions of the flesh. They waste their life pursuing their addictions and wind up in the pit of despair. They remain captive and worship the chemical of their choice.

To release yourself from the chains of their bad decisions, requires that light and hope enter the ego self. Abandoning the darkness of their self-imposed prison requires outside help. If the ego remains feeble, lost, confused and deceived, no steps to sobriety can be taken.

The first thing that needs to be done in order to obtain sobriety is to gain a deep desire and an acute self-awareness. Denial and pride are huge barriers that keep the addicted imprisoned. Becoming humble and having a willingness to abstain from your drug requires extraordinary power that many cannot muster, especially on their own.

The single most effective counseling tool that can help people come out of their self made prison is cognitive restructuring. Cognitive restructuring helps the addicted conquer their faulty thinking and self destructive behaviors. If this first step is never taken, the last can never be achieved.
