Car Number Plates – The Investment of a lifetime
Back in the 1960’s a friend’s father had what seemed like a momentary lapse in sanity and decided to invest in a car number plate. All his friends thought he was mad spending his hard earned wages on a registration for his car but little did they know what an incredible idea it would turn out to be. He bought what is known today as a dateless registration which has only two letters and two numbers. For years his registration adorned his car with pride and attracted the attention of admirers wherever he went. He even joined the Registration Numbers Club (RNC) and attended rallies with other enthusiasts and collectors. In recent years the popularity of car number plates has gone through the roof taking the prices of these dateless registrations along for the ride. Many registrations, especially older ones, fetch vast amounts of money when they are for sale. With this in mind he decided the time was right to cash in on his investment and so looked into selling his registration.Whist browsing the internet he came across a company called Cape Plates who offer a free online valuation and a selling service for people looking to sell their registrations. With no obligation to sell he completed the online form and promptly received an email in return with his valuation. He always knew it was a good idea to invest in car number plates but it wasn’t until he open the email that he realised just how good an idea it was. Eager to cash in on his asset he printed off the email and signed the agreement to confirm his details. He then simply posted the form to Cape Plates and they did all the hard work for him. The next day it was advertised on their site for all to see and soon he began receiving calls of offers on the registration. With a good volume of interest in the registration, Cape Plates advised him to hold out for the asking price and it wasn’t long until a buyer came along. The transfer was swiftly completed and a cheque for his number plate followed shortly afterwards. Since the 1960’s he has had years of fun with this registration and met some great people along the way. Cashing in his investment has simply been the icing on the cake. Free to pursue his interests in travel and exploration, he is currently spending his winters in the warmer climate of Australia. I bet his friends don’t think it was such a crazy investment after all!
