7 Ways to Overcome and Prevent Vertigo Attack

by Wanda Curry

Vertigo is a feeling of faintness. It is caused by soreness in the inner ear and other medical conditions, such as vestibular migraine, acoustic neuroma and Meniere’s disease. You know you are being attacked by vertigo if you encounter lightheadedness, spinning motion, unsteadiness and others. Soon as your doctor reveals that you have this condition, you have to make sure that you are well aware of ways to overcome and prevent vertigo attack.

1. If you experience abrupt attack of vertigo, move slowly to where you can reach for a couch or bed. However, if it is difficult for you to do this (let’s say you are in the kitchen), do not move and stay calm. Ask for help from family members. Vertigo attack may happen any time. Have your phone at your side so you can very easily make a call in case you really need it.

2. You may lay down in bed but see to it that your head is raised. When you lie flat, you will only aggravate your situation. Do not move your head. Ask anyone to give you tissue or to get a garbage can ready in case you vomit. Stay in bed until you are certain that the attack has disappeared and you can now manage your balance.

3. Avoid doing activities that will require you to move fast or else these will lead to vertigo. Similarly, learn how to move slowly. Do not lie down, wake up or sit very suddenly. In case you have to check out something from a different route, always make sure that you are moving your head slowly.

4. Another way to overcome and prevent vertigo attack is to meet with a doctor for medical analysis. Your vertigo might point to an actual condition like an imbalance of fluid in the inner ear and inadequate supply of blood to the brain. Worst, it may be an indication of stroke and other serious health concerns. In the process, the medical expert may address your concern effectively and offer cure for vertigo. You may also ask for medicine that you can take in case of attack.

5. Perform workouts that improve balance. These will allow you to have better balance thereby reducing your risk to fall. Because of these routines, you will be more confident to go out with friends and more content to undertake more things.

6. Quit smoking and drinking alcohol. These lifestyle habits will only make your vertigo worse. Follow a low-salt diet or better yet, ask your doctor or a nutritionist to provide you with a diet that will help avoid or reduce vertigo.

7. Scarcity of water in the body brings about dizziness, dry skin, headache, fatigue, and repeated attack of flu. It also causes vertigo; hence, you have to drink lots of water. Stay away from caffeinated beverages as well.

Some people disregard dizziness; hence, the minute they are able to deal with it, the worse has happened already. Yes, vertigo is also a warning sign of a serious health condition; hence, you have to undertake medical checkup. The doctor will instruct you on how to overcome and prevent vertigo attack but more than this, he will validate if you have other medical concerns.
