Looking for Additional Revenue Streams?

Try Adding Chinese Herbs to Your Concoction

If you are looking to monetize a website, you will quickly find yourself constantly in search of additional revenue streams. Unless your target audience is from a very specific Niche, chances are you will need to test multiple offers to maximize your visitor value.

The more diverse your audience is, the more difficult this becomes. You will find yourself struggling with different offers to try and pinpoint what exactly your visitors respond to best. Sometimes you will find a relatively successful offer, but without further testing, you may be missing out on better deals.

There is no "one size fits all" solution for this issue, but here are a few key factors to consider when attempting to select the proper monetization channels for your website:

1) Analyze your website's demographics. You can do this by requesting surveys to be filled, in return for a discount, or other gifts. Based on your visitors' age, social standing and other such details, see if you have a dominant percentage that share somewhat similar demographics, and tailor specific ads for that group.

2) Use Geo-IP tools to detect the visitor's location, and broadcast appropriate ads. If 70% of your visitors are in the US, showing them an ad more appropriate for US residents is probably smart. However, if you show that same ad to the other 30%, it will generate little to no results.

3) Try offering a product that targets a large share of the population, and is in constant demand. Chinese herbal products are a good example, as the industry has exponentially grown every year in the last 2 decades roughly. Another great example is the Spyware and registry cleaning industry, and the paid surveys industry.

Another important choice you will have to make, is deciding whether to go with an affiliate program, or an ad revenue model. An ad revenue model can pay you per each impression the ad receives, or alternatively for each click. An affiliate program model, however, pays for each actual sale (or action) performed by one of your visitors.

Working with an affiliate program model with an offer that fits your visitors can be very profitable. You will quickly be able to tell if an affiliate program is converting well for your visitor audience using basic statistic services provided by most affiliate programs. These basic stats usually show the amount of clicks received from your website, and the amount of sales derived from those clicks.

As a rule of thumb, always try working with popular affiliate programs. If the affiliate program is popular, you have a better chance of getting paid, and you can also bet that their conversion rates are relatively good, since you can tell there are many website owners working with them.

A good affiliate program must provide successful marketing materials. Tested marketing materials, such as banners, text ads, buttons, and textual ads for your site are guaranteed to save you time, and help maximize profits.

Equally important, you must find an affiliate program with a manager that is willing to work with you towards monetizing your site. Naturally, they know their product better than you do, hence they would be able to help you in focusing their offer and advising you on maximizing response for their offer.

Whatever revenue model you select, always remember: Test, re-test, and test again. Your website may seem like it is doing great with one offer, but maybe in the same time you are missing out on an offer that would generate 70% more profit? Without testing, you'll never know better.
