How Recycling Protects the Environment

by Greg Pierce

An innovation which makes recycling more efficient are balers. The waste materials of manufacturers are recycled for the sake of the environment. So does recycling alone really help the environment?

Recycling programs are designed for psychological purposes which may be to get rid of consumer guilt. These aren't really for saving our environment. The reason for this is the products themselves aren't friendly to the environment. We are so much concerned about the packaging that we have forgotten if the actual products cause any harm.

Think about this, detergents have toxic chemicals that pollute the waterways thru the sewage system; soda drinks with artificial sweeteners that bring about cancer or malfunctions in the neurological system; chemicals additives from household cleaning agents, lawn pesticides, etc.; CFC from spray propellants; and a lot more.

We are pretty much concerned about the packaging that we have forgotten the contents of the package. We should not be using these products at all if we are concerned with nature. Its more about elimination of consumer guilt. With this the consumers are given a symbolic measure that they can feel pleasant about.

Recycling lets the people believe that they are doing something noble even as they are flushing toxic products down their drain, into their cars, into their lawn, into their hair & systems.

What people should really be doing is purchasing eco-friendly products to begin with. You wont have to worry about the excess of packaging in the to begin with when you are living a lifestyle that truly means well to the environment. This comes down to the purchasing decisions or purchasing power. Choosing the products that you use on a daily basis wisely.

With lesser packaging, you can even contribute to the greening of the environment. Avoid those products in Styrofoam packaging. Bring a cloth bag when you purchase your groceries. Get your whole grains by the bulk. Purchase your fruits uncut or unprepared so that you can just slip them into your cloth bag. These are just some ways you can reduce excessive packaging. There are a hundred ways more.

So why do you think the coral reefs are diminishing? The marine flora and fauna are now being affected by the chemicals & heavy metals being emptied into the oceans thru the rivers which in turn are contaminated by our drainage system. The cycle of destruction starts from us thats why we should be more responsible.
