Competent Personal Trainers
Personal Trainer
Personal trainers are individuals who are trained and employed to help other people train and maintain their physical health through fitness and diet programs. Due to the sensitive nature of what they do, and given that it involves health, self esteem and condition of clients, competence is probably the most important element that a person needs to become a good personal trainer. Competence basically is the ability and skill to perform the basic function of personal training, that is keeping someone else fit and healthy.
Personal trainers work with different people and therefore their field has its element of diversity depending on the kind of physical training they get to do, although at the end of the day their work involves working either with an individual or group of individuals. To remain competent, physical trainers need to have certain qualities in order to achieve and maintain a high competence level. The three most important of these qualities are:
Motivation A personal trainer's greatest attribute is his ability to motivate his trainees. Physical fitness is not an easy task and a client's level of motivation is rarely enough to push him/her through the really tough times of the training routine. It takes a personal trainer great skill and patience to motivate, and there are two main ways to do this. One is to make sure the clients push themselves to the limit during their workouts, and two is having a trainer roll up his sleeves and show the trainees how to do the training routines well. As long as a client can see his personal trainer doing it, he/she believes they can do it too.
Technique Competent Personal trainers have certain techniques, routines and postures that are effective, simple, and measurable and show quick and positive results. This is what they present to the client before training begins and are therefore, which inspires confidence and trust.
Diet plans Once a good personal trainer has a diet plan that fully complements his training schedule, there is affective progress that is made by the client and this will show a great level of competence by personal trainer.
There are, of course, other qualities that combine well to make an effective and competent personal trainer, like professionalism and good customer relations.
