The current trend or the prevailing mode of expression is called fashion. It specifies the change in culture or way of living. It reflects the society of which it is a part. It has been influenced by individual personalities, wars, laws, religion, conquests and the arts. It is often expressed as a form of free speech which not only embraces clothing but also accessories, jewellery, hairstyles, beauty and body art. It throws light on individual identity. The beginning of fashion is associated with this growth of trade and business and the rise of the economic system known as capitalism.There have been critics who have condemned fashion as irrational, tyrannical and immoral. Before trains were invented fashion changes took place after every 10 to 15 Years. With the introduction of rail travel fashion changes took place yearly. The changes in our lifestyles create a need for clothing fashion designed for the way we live now. It symbolizes our personality and our thoughts as well. Fashion and beauty have become affordable to everyone. The companies have started producing products at reasonable rates. As such fashion is moving in a weekly cycle and fashion trends stay for a short time only. Rapid changes in fashion have been supported by television shows and internet as well. People see the changes in the fashion sitting at home which makes it easier for them to accept it very easily.The Fashion BusinessThis includes many different companies ranging from textiles, chemicals to garment manufacturing and retail merchandising. After 1960’s a whole new range of yarns, new fashion fabrics became available. Initially since the designing and fabric finishing techniques were expensive the new fashion fabrics were only in the reach of the well to do families but since the production costs today have reduced with the introduction of new and better technologies these are in reach of the masses.Fashion has spread throughout the world where people may combine elements of international fashions with elements of their own culture’s traditional dress. For example women in India are wearing sari from the past. However the saris designed today have an influence of western trends.
