Milwaukee Art Museum

Renowned architect Santiago Calatrava designed this stunning addition to the museum, a gleaming, white-winged icon silhouetted against the space where Lake Michigan meets the sky. Visitors enjoy its flapping wings twice daily. In addition to a drop-dead gorgeous lakefront view, the museum houses more than 20,000 works in its collection, including treasures by Degas, Monet, Picasso, O Keefe and Warhol.
Upcoming exhibitions include Masters of 20th Century American Comics, April 29 through Aug. 20, 2006. Both the young and young-at-heart will enjoy this journey through the development of the comic strip, including more than 300 original drawings by key American artists.
Elegance, utility and proportion define the Biedermeier period. Its first North American /European exhibition, including 300 outstanding examples of German, Austrian and Eastern European 19th century furniture and related decorative arts, comes to the museum in Biedermeier: the Invention of Simplicity, Sept. 13, 2006-Jan. 1, 2007.
Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin
Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin is a spectacular 120,000 foot complex coming to Milwaukees lakefront in the summer of 2006. Discovery World connects innovation, science and technology with exploration, environment and our Great Lakes freshwater resources. The museum will feature experiential learning through interactive exhibits, fresh and salt water aquariums, touch tanks, digital theaters, and labs. The grounds will include a 200 foot dock, park, promenade and cafofont.
During summer, the inner harbor will be home for Wisconsins Flagship, the S/V Denis Sullivan, a 137 foot re-creation of a Great Lakes schooner and floating classroom. Visitors can come aboard for a short sail, or a voyage to learn how to survive on the Great Lakes, the Atlantic and the Caribbean. Milwaukee Public Museum
The Milwaukee Public Museums acclaimed permanent exhibits pack a trip around the world into an afternoon. You can stroll through a Costa Rican Rainforest, walk along the turn-of-the-century Streets of Old Milwaukee, or mount an expedition to The Third Planet to see the worlds largest known dinosaur skull or share space with exotic, free-flying butterflies in the Puelicher Butterfly Wing.
The museum is also one of only three North American venues where visitors can get a rare glimpse into the storied world of the papacy when the traveling exhibit Saint Peter and the Vatican: The Legacy of the Popes 2006 North American Tour, comes here Feb. 4 through May 7, 2006. This glittering array of Vatican artifacts highlights 300 authentic pieces and several reproductions tracing 2,000 years of Catholic leadership, including a bronze cast of the hand of Pope John Paul II.
Embark on an intriguing adventure through the once highly-guarded world of ancient China's Royal Astronomers when the museum hosts Dragon Skies: Astronomy of Imperial China during summer 2006. This fascinating exhibit includes some of the world's most ancient astronomical tools. Interactive highlights invite visitors to go on a star hunt or view the night sky as it appeared to Chinese astronomers.
The Museum also houses the Humphrey IMAX Dome Theater, a six-story-tall dome theater featuring edge-of-your-seat entertainment. It will soon become the state's largest and most advanced planetarium with the addition of full-dome digital video capabilities in mid-2006, one of only four facilities in the world with this state-of-the-art techno package. IMAX feature films and documentaries will continue as a large part of the theaters programming.
