Dealing With Global Warming -A Guide

by Millicent Ferrell

We have all heard about global warming and how this has impacted the environment and, of course, us. All of us depend on our environment for the ecological processes we and all creatures, from the lowest to the highest order, are part of. The impact of global warming is our concern before we can do anything to stop or control its destructive effects, we need to understand just what it is and how it occurs.

Global warming is a sensation whereby the earths atmosphere near its surface increases in temperatures. There can be two factors behind this, one becoming human-made compounds such as methane fuel, chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) and carbon dioxide. Identified sources of methane are rubbish dumps, natural gas fields, livestock and wastewater gunge, among others, while CFCs originate from air-conditioners, aerosol sprays and chemical substance agents used for cleansing electronic equipment. Carbon dioxide, which is the major man-made contributor to climate change, comes from the burning up of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, along with emissions from motor vehicles, petroleum-based products and industrial plants.

When these kinds of gases are released into the air, they thicken the walls with the so-called greenhouse where naturally-occurring gases of the atmosphere stay. Normally, the heat in which comes from the sun and enters this garden greenhouse escapes so as to produce a favorable temperature for that earth. But because of these emissions, greenhouse walls become less permeable and trap a lot more heat than necessary. This increasing warmth is now felt in the world in a phenomenon referred to as climate change.

A second yet equally damaging reason for this phenomenon is ozone, a heat-trapping, naturally occurring fuel in the lower ambiance. When fossil fuels are usually burned, they create ozone-containing smog that, again, adds to the temperature in the atmosphere and makes the earth even hotter.

There seems to be no more stone remaining unturned in terms of the devastating effects of global warming. Intense and unpredictable weather conditions are killing sea animals, compromising agricultural activities, threatening the lifestyles of millions of species as coastal drinking water levels rise and even worsening economies by making food more expensive.

Without a doubt, this is a time whenever we, as humans, can be that we are still the many intelligent creatures on earth. We all stand to shed with global warming, yet as long as we carry out our share to stop it, it doesn't matter how small, we can still desire and work for a much better planet.
