As you've probably heard by now, you're best bet when it comes to beverages is pure water. If you drink coffee or tea, try to get into the habit of drinking it plain, or with a minimum of milk or sweetener. You shouldn't even rely on fruit juice as a thirst quencher, because you'll be taking in quite a few calories and sugar if you're drinking it all day long. Very often, people trying to lose weight make the mistake of concentrating entirely on cardio type exercises when they could make faster progress if they also did some resistance training. When you focus on building muscle, you're improving the efficiency of your metabolism, which is crucial when you want to lose weight. You can split up your workout in various ways, but you should really do both weight lifting (or the equivalent) and cardio exercises for maximum results. You don't have to be at the gym to do resistance training, as there are many exercises you can do at home with simple equipment or none at all. If you don't want to look like a bodybuilder, you can do a routine that uses light weights (or other resistance) -ask a trainer at the gym or look for advice on how to work out without bulking up.

Make sure you're not eating out of habit rather than because you really need to. This requires you to listen to your body rather than focusing on the clock or an external schedule. You should also hesitate before adding to your plate; if someone offers you seconds, or you're at a salad bar, ask yourself if you really need it. You may not realize this, but eating quickly actually tends to make you eat more, so by chewing slower you can consume less. There's the simple fact that the slower you eat, the less time at the meal there will be to eat more, but it goes beyond this, as it even allows you to get filled up on less food. When you eat slower, you give yourself a chance to fully digest your food so that when your body has had enough, it will let you know. So slow down, and pay attention to your body so you don't eat any more food than you really need.

These are just a few tips for developing habits that can help you to shed that unwanted weight.
