2012: The Golden Globes

by Mark Etinger

This year the Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 15th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. It's a huge awards ceremony and one that says is a precursor to the events at later award ceremonies like the Oscars.

However, unlike the Oscars, you'll see more celebrities on the red carpet runner at the Beverly Hilton! This award ceremony celebrates both accomplishments in film and also television. Best Drama, Best Musical, etc…are separate categories here. This means more celebrities show up just because it covers a wider range. However, the packed nature of the red carpet runner will be more due to the fact that many say it's more fun than any other award show.

Because it's before the Oscars but after the holiday movie push, there's not a lot of pressure put on those who are nominated for an award. You could also make a case for the award ceremony being the only largely televised award show that includes dinner. That would make me less stressed and cranky too, although it would make me a little nervous about wearing a tight red dress on the red carpet runner!

If you want to catch a glimpse of your favorite stars and their high fashions (and handsome dates!) you're out of luck this year. The only place that you can see the red carpet is at a set of small bleachers set up in front of the hotel. These seats are only sold to hotel guests who book that privilege with their hotel package. For the 2012 awards show, the seats were already sold out by August of the previous year. You can go ahead and book now for next year though! The Beverly Hilton books up to a year in advance. And for a ceremony as highly prized as this one, you want to make sure you get a seat. No, they're not free either. A front row seat on the bleachers will cost you $2,600! If you're not looking to pay that much for a seat, there's a lesser (but still extravagant) price option of only $1,800 for a seat father back.

This is such a fun show to watch because you can actually tell that those celebrities on the red carpet are actually enjoying themselves. If you can't afford that outrageous price for a bleacher seat, don't worry, you can snag yourself a great seat on your couch and watch the festivities on NBC.
