Father's Day-What Can I Buy For Dad To Make Him Feel Special

by Jackie De Burca

Dad has been a bit quiet lately, seems to be under what the grown-ups call stress. He comes home late most evenings, some evenings he doesn't come home at all and he doesn't make as many jokes as he used to before. I am going to take away his "stress" by buying him a cool Father's Day gift.

And you know what? When I grow up I don't want to have this thing they call stress, it doesn't seem like much fun! At least at the weekends Dad is more like Dad again, but I wish he was happier during the weeks as well. Well Father's Day is in June, I wonder what I can buy for Dad to make him feel special, like really special?

Buying presents is very difficult to do, especially cos I have saved up money for such a long time and I want to make sure that the present is going to be great. So I have decided to talk to Mum and get some help and ideas from her.

Mum said that Dad is under stress but for me not to worry about it. She said that we are very lucky because there are other Dads who don't have work and my Dad is very good at his job, and that is why he is sometimes tired and even has to travel for his work. It is because my Dad is really good at his job.

When he travels for his job, Mum told me that he likes to travel on trains. He can relax and watch the views, and it also reminds him of the Flying Scotsman. I was puzzled, and asked Mum what Flying Scotsman she was talking about, cos it sounded a bit funny to me.

She said that as a boy, he loved to watch the trains pass by and stop at the station in his village. His village was on the route of the Flying Scotsman, which is the train route between England and Scotland, since 1862. He loved it so much that he had the walls of his bedroom covered in pictures of the old Flying Scotsman trains.

When Mum told me this I wished we lived near a train station as well. I love trains but mostly only see them on television and in films. I wondered if there was any present at all that I could buy for Father's Day to make Dad feel special that would bring back these happy memories of when he was a boy?

I knew it would be difficult or maybe even impossible but I went on my computer and started searching for the Flying Scotsman. Some of the photos are brilliant. I read about the history of the Flying Scotsman and just kept on looking online.

Well it took a long time, but I think I have found the perfect Father's Day gift for Dad. You'll never believe it but there are these really cool Flying Scotsman Washbags. The Flying Scotsman Washbag is full of classic train pictures and it means that when Dad needs to travel for his work he can use his Flying Scotsman Wash Bag; I know he is going to feel special with this great gift!
