A solid position if ever there was oneā¦
Every morning they trundle around the streets of our cities, clearing, cleaning and generally making them a better place to be. They have been the subject of movies, documentaries and long running television series which shows just how interesting a job it really is. This is why you are probably thinking about a career in waste management.

To qualify for this role there are not too many things you need. You will need to be fit and healthy, able to work with other people and be willing to deal with some of the more grotty aspects of general waste. If you fit into this description then you are good to go and can apply for the next job that comes up. Here is what you can start looking forward to:

Job Satisfaction

The best thing about a job as a bin man is that you will have a chance to feel some real job satisfaction. Too many jobs leave people feeling like they have not achieved anything with their day, whereas when you finish you day as a bin man, you will be able to see all the work you have done and feel that you have made the world a better place for everyone in your area.

Good hours

The hours worked by bin men are also very desirable. If you don't mind the early starts, you will be finished long before people start leaving their offices as it gets dark in the evening. This will allow you to go about any other business you might have and provide a level of freedom that is so often missing from regular 9-5 schedules.

Private Companies

If you are really keen on this type of work then you can even start your own company without too many overheads. There are plenty of garden clearance companies and <waste removal London businesses which you can emulate and star working for yourself. All you would need would be a nice big van and some money for advertising your services.

Unions

What working for the council would provide though would be access to a union. By joining you would become a part of a national organisation of workers who have joined forces to protect their rights and to ensure you would get fair wages, work rules and benefits. Being part of a union would provide you with the job security and feeling of solidarity which working for yourself might not achieve.
