Home Wind Powered Generator Kits: How Could They Be A Lot Better Than Solar?
The home wind turbine is not necessarily everyone's problem. However it does have distinct advantages over other renewable energy options, such as solar and geothermal power.
We've all been acclimated over the years to think that electricity in particular will be with us forever. We've all thought that there was no fuel out there to supply central generating plants all the power that we need to power our lights and electronics.
However, now we know that is not the case. We are running out of fossil fuels and alarming rate. These sources were made millions of years ago when dinosaurs decomposed and we'll have to wait millions of years now to for more dinosaurs to die and turn themselves into oil.
Getting back to the point at hand - home wind turbine products are better than solar products in these ways…
First, the wind can blow 24 hours a day whereas we were talking about the sun, we know it's only out during daylight hours. This can be a big problem if you live in an area where there is only wind. If you don't take advantage of that wind you are seriously underutilizing the forces of nature that exists for your harvesting.
The second reason is that solar technology is more difficult to understand. Wind is very straightforward because all of us played with pinwheels as kids. So the concept is very straightforward and simple for us.
All the home wind turbine does is take the energy that's converted from the wind into mechanical force which then is turned into electricity by a motor. The solar collector is more complicated and not as intuitive.
Lastly, it is more difficult work on a solar collector that is to work on a home wind turbine. The mechanics of the home wind turbine are very straightforward and understandable by most any average handyman. Also, the average handyman can probably work on a wind turbine but you'll probably need a technician to repair any conceptual problems that might be occurring with the solar collector.
Just as a side note - the complexity of the geothermal system is even greater than that of the solar device. Although it is a tremendous source of perpetual energy, geothermal systems are very difficult to work on. And require the services of a technician in most cases.
In conclusion, the home wind turbine is not superior in a general sense to the solar collector or to geothermal energy production equipment. It is however a distinct advantage if you live in a windy climate or if you do not have access to the sun it long stretches during the day. The best solution of all is to combine these technologies and not do one to the exclusion of the others.
