Whenever I hear people saying that making money on the internet is easy, I automatically flinch. Until recently most of my efforts to make money on the internet were frustrating. I have to admit that I am somewhat gullible simply because I really wanted to work for myself and make a decent living.

I have to admit that I have a way of falling for various opportunities due to my desire to make money online. There are so many things that I want to believe, and the idea that I can become independently wealthy is at the top of the list. When you think of it, I'm exactly the person the online gurus can target – naïve, enterprising, and just a little bit desperate.

As a matter of fact, I have tried many ways to make money on the Internet. I tried selling on eBay, which was not very profitable. I was able to sell a few odds and ends that I collected over the years. I also bought stuff from garage sales but with the amount of time that I invested the returns were marginal, I didn't really gain enough to make it worth it.

I tried to make money on the Internet through affiliate programs, and have had success with that. However I have had to make some serious changes.There are a few basics that need to be taken into consideration when choosing to work online or at home.

Firstly your business begins with you. You must have some interest beyond that of just making money. Take stock of the most important asset you have which is you, then it will become obvious what methods will work based upon the resources and time you have.

The key is to start with baby steps and be patient. Understand your reality. Work within the resources that you currently possess and allow time for the work you have done to bring in results. Reinvest in business and continue learning so as to develope your online venture.

Nevertheless, don't start by thinking that you will become rich overnight. Those notions are for lottery players. You will have to get serious and be prepared to work.
