The Best Way To End Substance Addiction

by Daisy Rey

It can be a challenging attempt in deciding to take a step towards a life free from opioid addiction. It is necessary to understand what available options are there in order to make the best decision whenever a person is ready to take that step. In other drug treatment programs, they target more on the spiritual approach but in this so called dual-diagnosis-treatment-center, it works on generally in treating the physical addiction. There are treatment centers nowadays that are specifically for the youths which are gender specific and enable young children to attend with their families.

Below are some tips in evaluating programs for opioid addiction therapies:

1. Analyze the viewpoint of the program. Alternative methods on addressing addiction like yoga, massage, homeopathy and art study methods that are being used in a specific drug treatment center, may not work with a certain patient, by may be more comfortable with traditional talk therapy. Guiding principles that the treatment center uses with their patients should also be inquired. For instance, in a group therapy, a program which uses the principles of Narcotics Anonymous, a 12-step program, may vary from the philosophy used in Recovery Therapy.

2. Evaluate if the center exclusively attends to the patient's necessities. Some patients may need to withdraw from opiates, while others focuses on methamphetamines or cocaine. The problems of each particular patient should be exclusively addressed for them in the drug treatment program.

3. Check your financial means. Find out if the alcohol or drug rehab center is included on your insurance provider. Call your state regarding programs for people without financial means if you don't have funds insurance to cover a private treatment center.

4. Relating to to the individual. Some men for example may do better in a program designated for men only; on the other hand, a woman for instance needs drug treatment but has an abusive situation and needs to be in a center that also provides care for her property and her child. There are treatment centers for the youth and elderly-only as well. An individual may have a great chance if he/she is in a setting that is cozy.

5. In every program, always read the rules and restriction information. Some drug treatment institutions are rigid in the patient's visiting hours and may not allow family visits until a certain amount of time has passed. Others encourage frequent visitation from loved ones and families. Other treatment organizations may make visitation hard due to the travel time or place of that particular institute. A little time and space away from people could help the person heal as he/she enters the treatment program.
