Tee It Up For Better Golf

by Jeffrey Veal

When you think of

golf, a golf tee probably Is not among the first things that come to mind. But, there are specific rules

within the game of golf that you must abide by to make the game legitimate. A lot of these regulations

contain variables which grant you the use of certain tools during a round of golf. The golf tee is one of

these tools. If you are new to the game, you might be

wondering what a golf tee is. Think of it as a device that

holds a golf ball off of the ground in a fixed position. You'll

discover that they are typically made of plastic or wood. It can only be used on the tee box for the first

swing to start a new hole.

For those who are familiar with the game, they understand the role the golf tee plays in their game. They have seen the pros using a tee, and have marveled at how perfect most of their shots seem to

be. There are

different methods to using a tee that will have an affect on your golf shot. There are some circumstances that you will have to adjust for to

allow you to get the most effective shot possible. The strength and direction of the wind, the

condition of the tee box, and the golf club you are using are a few things that have to be taken into

consideration.

For example, let's look at the driver. A rule of thumb is to

tee the ball up to where it is at least one-half an inch higher than the head of the driver. Because of the swing path when using the driver, this

is considered the ideal set up. This produces an angle that will allow the ball the best chance for maximum

length and height. You will be applying this teeing technique the most since the driver is

used off of the tee box more than any other club. Tee the ball a little lower whenever there is a wind blowing inward towards you. This will

keep the ball down so the wind does not catch it as much, causing you to lose a lot of distance. You may want to keep the ball teed up the

same if the wind is behind you. Teeing it a little bit higher is another alternative since you will experience some extra

distance with the assistance of the wind behind you.

It takes a combination of many things working collectively, such as different tools and processes, to hit a

sound golf shot. The golf tee is considered one of these tools, because of its capability to produce the

ideal set-up for your ball. A lot of people do not realize how much influence the golf tee has on a golf stroke. Having the

ball teed up correctly is important. Whenever the ball is

teed up to high or to low, it may affect the outcome of the shot. For the best results, select the right club, make a nice,

flowing swing and remember, tee it up!
