How to Access the Power of Your Intuition

5 key excercises

by Mary Pinizzotto Jaffe

Our intuition is an ever present resource for helping us make decisions and feel confident on our path. Learning to access our intuition can afford us the peace of knowing we are never alone and the confidence to trust our inner resources.

Here are 5 Key ways to access the power of your intuition:

1. Get Quiet.

Carve out a few moments several times a day to notice the thoughts that are constantly racing through your head. Take another moment to detach from them by simply noticing that you are noticing the thoughts. This other presence that notices the thoughts is an aspect of the greater you who is in touch with your intuition at all times.

2. Get centered

Getting quiet is a big step to getting centered. In the getting centered exercise, first get quiet, then consciously pull your energy back into you. One way to do this is to notice any thought form that seems dominant and to acknowlege the energy you are giving it, then asking your energy to come back into you. Another way to do this is to scan the physical body for sensations. This brings the mind into the body directly and brings our consciousness into the NOW. When we are in the moment, we are centered. Our intuition can only be accessed in the NOW.

3. Get curious.

When you get curious you are inquisitive and open. Scan your body sensations as described in the get centered exercise then ask your body, "What do you want me to know?" with each sensation hold the question "What can I learn from this" Do this without attachment to receiving an answer and without dwelling on any particular feeling or sensation.

4. Be Playful.

Our intutition is kin with our imagination. Start playing more. Allow yourself to doodle, draw, color, dance, sing, daydream and generally play. You can do this with an intended question in mind that you are looking to have answered or you can do it openly and just let the activity of having fun and getting lost in the imagination develop your ability to access your intuition.

5. Make mistakes. Let go of judgements.

An important step in accessing the power of our intuition is not squelching our progress by judging our selves harshly for "not doing it right". There really is no right or wrong way in this path. There is only an open path or a blocked path. To keep the path to the intuition open, avoid blocking the way with unecessary (possibly conditioned)obstacles.

Play with all 5 key exercises together or individually. Allow yourself lots of leeway in acceptance in this pursuit and you will find your inner "voice" (it may be a voice, or picture or sound, but more likely just a feeling of knowing). Keep practicing and you will have access to an inner wisdom beyond any you can read in a book.
