Do Hybrid Seeds Reproduce? – How To Avoid A Seed Bank Scam

by Kathy Stearns

Unless you have training as a farmer, you likely assume that all seeds are alike. In the most simple terms this is true, but farming techniques like cross pollination, genetic alteration, and selective breeding have led to specialized forms of seeds that are quite different from one another. The way in which hybrid seeds grow is a major different between them and non hybrid seeds; a garden planted with hybrids cannot be self sustainable. Some survival seed scam artists have been known to sell hybrid seeds to clients who wanted to use them for their sustainable gardens; by being cautious, this will not happen to you.

While you might have heard that hybrid seeds cannot reproduce, this is really not the case. Farmers who want to grow large, durable, delicious, and colorful produce have spent many years trying to cross pollinate the perfect combinations; this has led to hybrid seed varieties. Growth and germination rates are usually different in seeds given off from hybrid parents, however.

Foods that non hybrid seeds produce can be relied on to be tasty and nutritious. When you plant non hybrid seeds, you know that the seeds found in the produce will be able to grow into fruit bearing plants. These seeds are the best option for storing seeds or planting a self sustaining home garden.

People worried about a possible lack of food for their families have been purchasing emergency seed banks so that they can grow their own healthy food at home. These companies claim to use only non hybrid seeds in their kits, but some scam artists are including some or all hybrid seeds in these seed banks and massively overcharging for them. Look into customer reviews of survival seed banks before you buy them to be sure that you will be getting exactly what you pay for. That way you will not throw away money on a shoddy product.

You do not have to be tricked by survival seed scams; by taking time to investigate companies before buying, you can be sure that your seeds will grow and reproduce correctly. It is not a good idea to use hybrid plants or seeds in your self sustaining garden since they may not be able to grow into full mature plants. Heirloom or non hybrid seeds are the best option when buying seeds you plan on storing or plantingto sustain a garden. They will give you healthy produce whose seeds you can plant again to keep your garden going strong.
