The Classic Fairy Tale Cinderella is Now on Broadway
It's "a lovely night" for the stars of the first time Broadway has staged the classic fairy tale, Cinderella. The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, starring Laura Osnes as Ella and Santino Fontana as Prince Topher, opened at the Broadway Theatre, at 1681 Broadway, on March 3.
The performance is directed by Mark Brokaw The classic fairy tale Cinderella originally aired as a TV special in 1957, starring the Oscar winning performer Julie Andrews. The new production features a totally re-written story by Douglas Carter Beane and added Rodgers and Hammerstein songs that were first composed for other musicals they composed for.
In addition to Osnes and Fontana, Cinderella includes Tony winner Victoria Clark as the fairy godmother Marie, Tony winner Harriet Harris as Madame, Ann Harada as Charlotte, Marla Mindelle as Gabrielle, Peter Bartlett as Sebastian and Greg Hildreth as Jean-Michel. What Is the tale regarding Cinderella? The bright and lovely Ella lives in the care of her evil, narcissistic stepmother Madame and Madame's two daughters, Charlotte and Gabrielle. Ella's sole compatriots are the animals in the woods, "crazy Marie" and the progressive pupil Jean-Michel. At the same time, in a different portion of the kingdom, Prince Topher is attempting to discover himself and understand his position in the kingdom. When his conniving consultant Sebastian recommends hosting a ball so the Prince could connect with possible brides-to-be, Ella and Topher's separate lives combine.
