Recruitment Scheme of NREGA India

by Prakash Singh

National Rural Employment Guarantee Act India (NREGA India) came into existence in the year 2005. This is an endeavor of the government to provide jobs to the rural people of India. This would in turn improve the living standard and the purchasing potential of the rural population.

According to the provisions of NREGA India, every rural family in which the adult members volunteer for unskilled labor would be eligible for 100 days of remuneration in each financial year. This means that each adult member belonging to the rural household is entitled to a permanent earning.

This Act plays a very vital role in the upliftment of those who belong to the rural and stagnant parts of the country. This endeavor of the government helps in bringing them close to the platform which can assist them sustain there lives and live with dignity and pride.

Working of the NREGA India scheme:

This scheme functions with a joint collaboration of the central as well as the state governments. They together assume the responsibility of disbursing these expenses. However, the percentage of their liability remains different for both. The central government is accountable for all payments towards 3/4th of the material cost, wages, and a certain percentage of the organizational cost. On the other hand, the state government is liable for 1/4th of the material cost, unemployment stipend, and the administrative expenses.

However, the state government has an additional incentive, i.e., it can offer employment in order to take exemption for not having to pay the unemployment stipend. This additional incentive is designed to make state governments more prompt and practical in executing the provisions of the scheme. As per the protocol, the state government is expected to provide employment within 15 days from the day of registration. This is further accompanied by a special directive of having to pay the earnings on a weekly basis subject to the maximum delay of less than a fortnight.

About NREGA Bihar Scheme:

While talking about NREGA India, how can we afford to forget one of the most significant states of India—Bihar? This is deemed to be one of the most backward states of India; despite having good education facilities and educated people, lack of opportunities compel them to move out and search employment elsewhere. However, the fact is that everybody wants to stay in their home town if adequate opportunities and facilities are available.

This state poses to be a major area that emphatically needs to have one such employment scheme in place. In order to cater to this critical and fundamental need of the local population, a similar recruitment scheme called NREGA Bihar has been launched. It will offer a likelihood of better future prospects to the capable and endowed youth. This attempt of the government will put a check on the young generation from fleeing away in search of some good earning opportunities. Moreover, NREGA Bihar aims at providing government jobs, which will give them a better sense of future security and confidence.
