How to Build Chest Muscles
health, bodybuilding
Of all the muscles on the human body, it's fair to say that the chest receives the most attention in the gym. And this is fair enough. A strong, broad looking chest makes you look more powerful and I haven't met a girl yet who hates a man with a strong chest.
So I want to clear up a few myths and set the record straight on how to build a bullet proof chest. Like anything to do with muscle building, building the chest is not rocket science, but unless you're training smart, you aren't reaching your true potential.
The first thing I want to tell you is how NOT to build a massive chest. Theres not too many times that I go to the gym and find the bench free. Theres always a couple of guys using it. Sometimes they know what they're doing, but often they just have no idea.
You don't need to be spending 30 minutes every workout doing bench presses. It's just unnecessary and won't yield you any results. It's called overtraining. You'll actually be going backwards doing this.
Another no-no is training your chest every day of the week. You need to give your muscles time to recover. If you're training the same muscles every day, your body just won't be able to give up and you'll start going backwards, if anywhere at all.
So what you need to do is train sensibly. I like to train each body part once, sometimes twice a week. This gives my body enough time to recover, so that I can actually add muscle to my chest. Hey, that is the goal isn't it? It's strange to think that training once or twice a week, with only a couple of sets per major muscle group is actually the best way to go, but that's how it works.
Now I'm going to mention my favourite few exercises to build the chest. There are some guys who like to do millions of different exercises, but I like to keep things simple. If you can stick to the following exercises, I guarantee you'll notice a difference in your chest within just a couple of weeks.
My personal favourite exercise is the dumbbell press. I like being able to get the weights as low as possible and using dumbbells allows this. I also like the regular barbell bench press and both incline and decline presses. They are all great compound movements and really allow you to build a great chest. You can also move a lot of weight using these exercises, which means youre putting your body under a lot of stress, which is always a good thing when it comes to building muscle.
Ok, so that's it for how to build a big chest. It was more simple than you thought, wasn't it? It usually is with bodybuilding, so remember when you're thinking about how to build the most muscle, keep it simple.
