ASP.net better than ASP?

by Steve Buchok

2 years ago I switched over from ASP to ASP.Net and immediately I realized the benefits that ASP.Net can bring. Let's get straight to the point. What are the benefits of ASP.Net over ASP.

Compiled Code

ASP.Net is compiled the first time it is run on the server and and only gets recompiled if you change the code. This allows for faster running of the pages from the server to the client.

COM Objects

Have you ever made a COM object and uploaded it to your host and had to pay extra for them to implement it. With ASP.Net you can create and run your DLL files without registering them with the server. Excellent for keeping content and programming seperate.

Web Forms and Web Controls

This allows you to treat a textbox as an object so that you can use certain events such as onClick or onSelectionChanged and various other events. This allows much more flexibility and makes it much easier for form processing.

These are the main reasons I love using ASP.Net. The processing of the code is faster, easier processing of forms, and has much more functionality. If buying a book just won't cut it for you, you can start learning at w3schools.com and if you'd like to go more indepth and learn about the calendar control, the repeater control or even how to build your own web service check out 4guysfromrolla.com. Happy programming.
