Incredibly Easy to Follow Golf Secrets - How to Avoid Water Hazards and Improve Your Stance
Not all advice is good ...
Hazardous Material
You will often hear that the best way to take a hazard out of play is to aim right at it, the theory being that the ball will then curve back to safety. Good advice doesn’t come much worse than that. Let’s say a lake runs all the way down the left of a hole. If you start your ball over the lake, it can do one of three things:
1. fly to the right and to safety 2. fly straight and get wet 3. fly anywhere to the left and get wet
Notice that on two of the three options your ball will land in the lake. Now if you aim to the right, a ball hit too far right probably will mean a tough second shot. A ball hit straight will be perfect. A ball hooked left may find the lake. On two out of three you’re dry. And if the ball hit to the right does find the lake, you’ll be able to drop it farther up the fairway than if you had started the ball to the left over the hazard. So don’t play around with water hazards. Avoid them at all costs.
A while back I was asked for my opinion about the irons from Pinemeadow which are much cheaper than the original branded clubs.
It is my honest opinion that the brand of irons has little to do with your golf game or score. The only difference is between your ears. Now it may affect your pride and self esteem, but that is all. Now style, design, etc can make a difference, but in my opinion, that is all. I own 5-6 sets of clubs the newest two sets being a set of Ping Blue Eyes and a set of Ping Blue Eye knockoffs. I am a pretty good golfer and I can’t tell a whole lot of difference, except in the price and that was about $700.00. Know what my favorite set of irons is? An old set of Ping Copper Heads that are maybe 20 years old. I just love the way they look and feel - probably because I have used them so long. Different brands of clubs have different feelings, and I think the better golfers can tell the difference, but for anyone shooting over 90 (which of 90% of golfers do) I don’t think they can tell a difference.
For Your Eyes Only … how to improve your stance
When you take your stance and address the ball, you likely will want to take a good look at your target. It’s part of the aiming process.
What you should not do, however, is lift your head to take a look. As a golfer prepares to hit his shot, he should be concentrating on it. Mentally, physically, and raising the head also raises the shoulders and interrupts the process.
It’s better just to turn your head to the left and zero in on the target with your left eye. That way your body will stay in the proper position to begin the swing.
Now go enjoy your golfing!
