Why Risk Assessment for House fires is Important?
The law states that the risk assessment for fire is mandatory in the offices, schools, factories, and other public places. But fire risk assessment is not a compulsion for residential areas. However it can not be neglected that many people die because of home fire. All this killing can be avoided if certain precautions are taken prior to a fire. Some of the ways to guard your home against fire are discussed below.
Kitchen is the most common place of the house that can invoke a fire. This is because of all the appliance and naked flames. Hence it is very important to keep a check on the kitchen while taking precautions. It would be wise to not leave ovens, gas stoves and grills unattended. Moreover if there are children in the home, it becomes even more important to do so. Make sure that lighters etc. are kept far from children’s reach. Oil should not be over heated because it can be very dangerous if spilled. Also keep a safety blanket in the kitchen in case any mishap occurs.
The electrical appliances used in our daily lives contribute very much to house fires. Sparking could be produced in the wires and plugs and it can lead to fire. So removing the plugs after use can help a lot in this scenario. One can also install safety measures, fire alarms and sprinklers in the house.
There are many other places in the house where one can have flames other than the kitchen. Candles, match sticks are all naked flames. These articles should never be left out of sight. Also it should be seen that they are not placed too close to any object that can catch fire. Flammable objects should be kept as far from them as possible. Sparks from flames can result in sparks on the nearby rugs and the fire spreads. It actually happens in too many cases.
Smoking cigarettes is not only bad for health but it also is one of the major causes of house fires. Ash dropped on any carpet or sofa can destroy the whole the whole house within a flash. If the cigarette is left unattended, it can really cost you a lot. Just by following some basic rules of safety and precaution, the chances of house fires can be ceased.
