Polarization is an important feature of light. Polarization means getting in tune with the wave in the space. The light waves run in all direction. When these scattered rays of light bounce off a reflective surface like shiny marble or glass, these untamed light waves polarize. This means that they orient in a horizontal axis. A polarized lens on the contrary is vertical and can hence block out any luminance of such light waves while securing other information unchanged.
Polarized sunglasses are specialized sunglasses and are normally used when everything depends crucially on your vision. The flashes that are nothing but light reflected from smooth surfaces deter the vision; they blind our eyes to a certain degree thus not allowing a fully fledged processing of information. The regular and normal sunglasses prevent the glare from meeting the eye; however they also strike out subtle details. This can be dangerous at times.

The 3-D glasses that we now commonly see around too have polarized lenses. In order to give the mind a good run, one of the lens in these 3-D glasses is horizontally polarized while the other is vertically polarized. This gives the image that the picture is moving in 3 dimensions. The effects of polarization in 3-D glasses are really fun to experiment with.
