A New Breed of Business Catering Companies Explode Across the Country
Traditional catering companies that bring tables and chairs, linens and place settings aren't really set up for short-notice events. Their usual role is the "planned" event like weddings and charitable dinners where decisions are made months in advance.
Business catering on the other hand is often scheduled with short notice either the day before of the day of the event. There are many businesses that fit this scenerio: sales representative who provides lunch or dinner for the staff at a doctor's office, hospital, manufacturing company or wholesaler. Staff training seminars or new hire training sessions. Often these groups are much small with just 10-30 people with full service catering being cost prohibitive.
There are an ever-growing number of companies that specialize in "drop-off" catering delivered by local food delivery companies in their area. These food delivery companies partner with local restaurants in the area to offer catering menus from local restaurants. Because they work with restaurants--which are used to fast turnaround--they can handle these short notice orders easily. The restaurants already have the staff on handle and many of the items are prepped in anticipation of walk in customers.
Cities large and small are seeing restaurant delivery companies which offer catering for groups from as few as six to well over a thousand. In the bigger locations there might be choices from 50 or 60 different restaurants while small towns and cities might just have catering from eight or ten or, perhaps, 20 establishments.
It's so convenient! A sales manager or a pharmaceutical rep can order breakfast on a Monday afternoon for delivery early Tuesday morning and it's taken care of. The food is delivered where and when it's needed along with serving utensils, plates and plastic ware.
For lunch--or dinner--a single phone call can produce a Mexican buffet with tacos, enchiladas or fajitas, rice and beans, sopapillas, salsa and chips; Italian entrees--everything from chicken parmesan to veal marsala, baked ziti or lasagna are available. Budget watchers can serve up delicious pizzas, strombolis and subs.
Depending on the locale and the delivery service's roster of client restaurants, businesses large and small can order Chinese dishes and sushi, Thai and Greek, sandwiches, salads, bbq ribs and chicken and it's usually all delivered in large insulated food bags so the food temperature is less of an issue.
Busy secretaries, managers and just about anyone in the company can arrange for food to be delivered quickly and efficiently. No need to have someone run to the restaurant, load the car, drive back to the building, unload and set everything up. It's a great time and energy saver and boosts productivity. Having meals delivered can be a morale booster. For as little as $10-15 person businesses can choose from many different meal options. Companies can actually offer this as a selling point when interviewing new employees. It used to be only the large companies with 1000's of employees could offer on site cafeterias. Google provides free meals for their employees and touts this benefit when interviewing employees.
With service and convenience, these drop-off catering, food delivery companies can be expected to continue to increase in number in coming years.
