Sun awareness campaign

UV protective swimwear – the practical way to follow doctor’s orders Cancer Research UK has launched a campaign to warn parents of the danger to their children from over-exposure to the sun. The medical profession tells us to ‘cover up’. But how realistic is it for most people to follow that advice and still enjoy their summer holiday? Lion in the Sun offers a practical way to help reduce your UV exposure and enjoy the summer weather at the same time. As one of the leading companies in the field, Lion in the Sun produces a great range of UV protective swimwear for children, teenagers and adults. We all enjoy warm and sunny weather, and we will soon have the opportunity to spend more time outdoors. However, we must ensure that we, and our children, do not suffer any long-term damage from over-exposure to the sun’s UV rays. Melanoma skin cancer rates are rising alarmingly in the UK. Even on cloudy days, there are plenty of UV rays in the environment.Lion in the Sun swimwear provides factor 50 protection, so blocks out more than 97.5 of the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. Cristina Sanders, Lion in the Sun’s managing director, explains “A garment with a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating of 50 will allow only one fiftieth of the UVR to pass through it. So a child wearing Lion in the Sun swimwear, which has a UPF of 50 , could spend 4 hours out in the sun and receive less than 5 minutes’ worth of UV rays on covered areas. On exposed areas such as face, hands and feet, the child should still use a suncream.”
