Review of Morganite Rings

by Matt Henderson

Morganite rings make for a very pretty look. The look of a morganite stone set in a platinum or gold band will give any woman the aura of elegance and romance. Morganite is a beautiful, classic gemstone with striking pink overtones and hues ranging from light pink to gentle lavender. Morganite may also be referred to as Pink Beryl, Rose Emerald, or Cesian Beryl, however buyers beware, this gemstone is very rare, and considered a precious crystal so be careful of imitations. The romantic look of Morganite rings is unique, and there are a few basic things to consider before investing in one. The value and cost of a Morganite ring will vary based on several factors. First, consider the size of the gemstone, like any other stone, the smaller the stone, the less it costs. But Morganite stones should be selected in a larger size to really let the natural beauty flourish. In addition, a higher quality cut will allow the subtle color of the Morganite ring stand out. Second, think about the quality of the stone. With Morganite, the color of the stone is the most important factor in determining the quality. Morganite is pink in nature and is sometimes streaked with yellow or orange. Many jewelers will process the stone to remove the yellow or orange, and a processed, treated stone is considered less valuable. You want to look for a Morganite ring with a clear, strong color, but if the color is too vibrant, more than likely it has been treated. Generally, the rule of thumb is the more transparent the stone, the more valuable it is. Morganite rings make romantic and feminine pieces to be worn every day, such as in an engagement ring, or to be worn occasionally. Morganite is a very heavy stone, so you must be sure that the stone is properly set in a nice sized piece, look for a ring that has no less than 18 karats. Keep in mind that this stone is extremely sensitive to high heat, be careful when it comes time to clean, or have your Morganite ring repaired. So you have made your decision and you are ready to purchase your Morganite ring, but where do you start looking? There are several jewelers who carry this type of ring, due to the increased popularity over the last several years, but first start online. Looking at a website like JTV (Jewelry Television), will help you get an idea of what type of style you are looking for. When you find the design and setting that you really like, print it out, and then start to visit your local jewelers. I would not recommend purchasing a ring or stone online, as you cannot be sure of the quality or authenticity of the stone. Visit a jeweler in your area who may even be able to help you custom design the ring.
