Runners Side Stitch
Were going to talk about what causes a side stitch and how to prevent them. Runners even a master runner can get side stitch. This problem happens because people come to running, they start out from all ages. You're never too old to start a running program. It's a good idea to check with your doctor...if your way over weight and or out of shape.
Once you do get a clean bill of health, you're ready to gradually start running. Even if you have to start at a walking pace; that's ok...taking action is the key. The secret to success in running is consistency! You're already a step ahead of everyone else because you're taking the action part serious. Running is a dedicated sport or some call it as their hobby. Staying free from a side stitch is not a problem.
You'll learn to never get them again by reading this article. A side stitch also called a side ache, a side cramp, a side crappie, a side sticker or simply a stitch is an intense stabbing pain under the lower edge of the ribcage that occurs while exercising, most common if the runner is a beginner. It is also referred to as exercise related transient abdominal (ETAP). Eating too close before your run is one of the top causes of a side cramp.
From my experience anyway and I've been a runner for over two decades. If you'll not eat anything three to four hours before running that should do it. I'm talking about a normal size meal. If you are starving though, you could eat a bite of most anything. I'm talking about five crackers or half of a half of a sandwich. Your could also eat half of an energy bar. A few bites of a carrot or an orange will do as well.
Once I did figure out all the different causes, I never got side stitch anymore. A side ache usually comes to runners in their first or even second year of running. Going out too fast in a race or even your daily runs can bring on the side stitch. One must warm up a little before running. Now, I'm not talking about your twenty minute stretching after a run. I'm talking about a ten minute walk or standing in place jog warm up will keep you clear from a side stitch. A side cramp or side sticker will not harm you because it will stop you dead in your tracks long before it could ever harm you.You know why I know? You're right!
I tryed about a half a dozen times to run them off! You'll start to slow down when you do feel one coming on. After you pick up your pace back up a little, they'll normally come back after fifty more yards down the road. Finish your run off with walking and your side stitch will stay gone.
