Rift Planes of Telara Classes

by Dorothy J. Tate

The available lasses in Rift: Planes of Telara are far more fluid than many in other games. This is important because if the Rift classes are going to be the same as those in the games you are already playing, why play something new.

The Rift Telara classes fall into the categories you find in most fantasy-based games. These, classes (callings in Rift), are warrior, cleric, rogue and mage. Each of these class has a number of different classes which allow you to choose the type of character in that calling you want to be. From there you have even more room to define the character that you want to play because each of the classes have sub-classes (souls). These souls are similar in some ways to the typical class trees but in Rift classes you can take a much wider variety than simply choosing which skill you want next. You can for example put all of your points into the tank soul and become far better at that but have a more limited set of skills. This should lead to many more possibilities on how to customize your character than in other massively multiplayer online games. There are fan blogs that makes information about each of the classes available such as http://www.riftwarrior.com and http://www.riftcleric.com.

Another sign that the game developer wants true versatility in its classes are that each player will be able to buy multiple specs. This means that you can have a hot bar with the different character setups and change them as you want. This should help people considerably in a variety of ways such as being able to play with one spec while with your friends and still being able to level on your own with one of the other specs.

Perhaps the most important point is not in leveling up but in what happens once you have reached the level cap. With the ability to have multiple specs which you can change on the fly, classes will not be as limited in the type of character they can play at high levels. This allows for a much more interesting end game experience. More insight about the classes could be found at http://www.riftplanesoftelaraclasses.com.

With four callings and at least six classes for each calling, Rifts classes should be a great deal of fun to explore as well as far more flexible than the classes in many other MMORPGs.
