Visiting Grand Canyon by Helicopter or Airplane

by Lea Fallon

Taking in the sights at Grand Canyon National Park the Grand Canyon just became easier! Now it's possible to take a chopper or an plane excursion and see all crucial sights in one day. Find out more. Check out this article.

One: Select your city of origin. A lot of the Grand Canyon tours depart from Vegas, but there are some that take off from the airport in Tusayan, Arizona, which is near the South Rim, and others depart from Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Sedona.

If you will be in Arizona and want the best price on your tour, you can save some money by driving to the airport in Tusayan rather than flying out of one of the other cities. Tusayan is only 2 hours from Sedona and 3 1/2 hours from Phoenix.

Two: Book your Grand Canyon flight online. It's safe and extremely to use. Plus, you'll get to use the discounted Internet only rate for your tour. If you do that you can save up to 35 % on the price of a tour.

Three: If the helicopter tour you want is fully booked (this is likely to happen unless you book at least one or two weeks in advance), go for a plane tour. Helicopter tours are very popular and the aircraft can only carry six people at a time. Planes have a higher capacity and can hold as many as 19 people. That means more tickets are available from the get-go.

Four: The best canyon air tours lift off between 8 am and noon. Visibility is best in the morning and the air is smooth and calm. The next-best alternative is a sunset tour, which can be incredible. Sunset flights are usually harder to get though since they only take off once per day.

Five: Buy a deluxe tour. When you book your flight over the Grand Canyon, you get to choose between a basic or deluxe tour. Indeed, basic tours are you cheapest option but if you add up all the perks associated with deluxe tours it's clear they are the better value. I'm talking extras like an aerial tour of the famed Las Vegas Strip and shuttle service in a limo.

Best of all, the deluxe flights use state-of-the-art EcoStar 130 helicopters, the flat-out best aircraft for spectacular sightseeing. The rides are quieter and smoother, plus you'll be seated stadium-style and view the scenery below through huge wraparound windows. Don't forget your camera because you will get to take some amazing pictures during your tour.

Also, consider adding some upgrades to your air tour. If you go to the South Rim, you can buy a tour package that includes a helicopter flight over the canyon and a 3 1/2 hour ride through the canyon in a 4x4. If you go to the West Rim you can add on VIP access to the world famous Grand Canyon Skywalk.

Wrapping Up

These five tips should come in handy when you're trying to identify and book the perfect Grand Canyon flight. They will help you get the tour you want at the best price. Probably one of the best tips is to go for the deluxe tour version, because it adds extra perks that makes your tour more fun, and it gives you fantastic value for the price.
