Download Songs, Movies, And So Much More

by Kathy Stearns

Today more and more consumers have opted to download songs instead of buying CDs. Digital downloads have overtaken the music industry and the way music is sold and distributed to the point that compact discs are almost obsolete.

The craze for digitally distributed music is spreading like wild fire across the globe. These songs are generally in MP3 format. Most music devices suggest a website for obtaining music for it, but there are many great sites out there. Once you have downloaded the tunes your options are to put them on a CD or an MP3 player. You can burn your music to a CD or you can sync them with your player. You only have to pay for the songs you want to own instead of paying full price for an album with little to offer.

Major record companies have been reporting a slump in CD sells for quite a few years now, and digital distribution is the sole culprit. There are many methods of acquiring the tracks you desire. You can choose to purchase songs one at a time, download an entire album for a set price, or sign up for a monthly pass to download songs from the provider. Depending on the song, artist, or record label the typical price for a single MP3 or the like is about one U.S. dollar. Ten bucks should net you the whole album, so for a 12 song LP you are generally looking at a discount. Depending on which online music service you use you may be provided the option to pay a monthly fee for limitless music downloads. This may not entitle you to full ownership of each song you download, but as long as you pay your bill you keep them forever. Keep up with your monthly service charges and you will have a seemingly unlimited amount of great music at your disposal.

CDs are a thing of the past, so you've likely invested in a good MP3 player by now. We aren't referring to the ancient MP3 players that simply read your files off of a compact disc. The MP3 players of today can hold more digital CDs than you could fit in your garage if they were actual discs. After these tiny music devices hit the electronics store everyone was just crazy about them. You can now carry around every song you have ever heard of on a machine that fits in the palm of your hand. Having your CDs sit on a stand or in a booklet in your car was no longer required. Additionally you can backup all of your music with an online or separate hard drive so that if your player becomes lost or stolen you still have access to everything you need.

It hasn't been around for too long, but downloaded music has certainly made its claim on the industry. Thanks to this unexpected trend that was started so long ago there is a lot more than just music that can be downloaded from the internet. Fill up your computer and media devices with all the songs, movies, and pictures you want – there's more where those came from.
