How to Save Money on Your Electricity Bill With Small Appliances and More
When it comes to saving on bills, you always want to know what options you have and what's the best way to do it. The electricity bill is no different. We live in a time with a lot of technology, appliances, and electronics in every household. Many have multiple computers, televisions, small appliances and major appliances that all add up to more money at the end of the month. But there are things you can do to curtail over use.
First, find out if your electricity supplier has an off-peak time for using various small appliances or doing the wash. Usually during these times the charge is less, although they may seem like odd times of day. Still, if you can bear to do your laundry at a weird time, you could save yourself a good deal of money just changing your routine a bit. If you can avoid using the dryer and dry your clothes on a line, that's going to save you a large amount as well. Save the dryer for items that need fluffing to stay soft and comfortable like sheets or towels.
People don't realize, but just having small appliances and electronics plugged in idly wastes electricity. Even though your television and Playstation are turned off, they are still using power while being plugged in. Unplug items that aren't in use, especially power adapters. The little bit of extra effort will go a long way over a year's worth of electricity bills.
Energy efficient devices like Energy Star appliances may be worth the investment, as they take far less electricity to run than a regular appliance would. You just have to make sure they have the Energy Star logo on them, or ask an employee where you are shopping for more information about it.
Avoid air conditioner usage unless you absolutely must. It takes 3 times more energy per degree to cool a room than to warm it up, which is why a constantly running AC really sucks money out of your wallet. At night, try to open a window instead of turning the AC on since it'll be cooler temperatures. If you do turn on the AC, set it for room temperature and don't let it run for hours. Let it cool the room until comfortable, then keep windows and doors closed to hold in the cool air as long as possible. You'll thank yourself at the end of the month!
