In Jamuria, a town in the district of Burdwan, West Bengal, the group plans to build a manufacturing facility by initially investing about 500 crore. The facility has the capacity to employ almost 1000 people directly as well as indirectly. Rashmi Group has created scopes of employment and investment in this turbulent Maoist inflicted areas of West Bengal. It aims to expand its business by investing almost 930 crores across the state of West Bengal.
Already serving customers in a wide area including Bihar, Jharkhand and states in the north-east India namely Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, the group of companies plans to enter Madhya Pradesh and spread their business in Odisha as well.
However, even after being a renowned name in the business world for more than 4 decades, Rashmi Group has had to encounter complaints and charges imposed by the South Eastern Railways. Rashmi Cement faced a show cause notice by the railways claiming that the cement company has committed freight fraud during the transaction period of April 2011 to March 2012.
The railways demanded an amount of Rs. 2,55,45,01,375 from the company. In response to this, Rashmi Cement filed a writ application vide W.P No. of 22813(W)/2012 (Rashmi Cement Ltd. Vs. Union Of India & Ors.) and sent a written request to the railways dated 4.10.2012 to stop proceedings with the show cause notice on account of absence of documents which were with the investigating agency. The written request also contained a plea for an extended period of time, which the Honorable Court ordered the railways to grant.
There may be an involvement of the group’s competitor companies in these offensive matters. Nevertheless, the group has successfully beaten all allegations and is continuing to do what it does best – excel in its products and services.
