So You Want To Publish Online Surveys

by Casey Trillbar

Online surveys are a huge boon in marketing today with tons of people signing up and filling out. It's an easy way to get information on products, services, ideas and inventions. survey sites provide hundreds and even thousands of surveys and questionnaires for their members and there are even ways to make money filling out information on your TV viewing habits on television network sites. This is a great resource for anyone looking to get more exposure for their websites, ideas, etc. Surveys are also a good way to learn more about the people visiting your personal or business website. Through the use of questionnaires, you can collect demographic information and cater to your most frequent group of visitors to keep them coming back for more. Or, alternately, to try to get more of another group base interested in your site to help grow your hit-ratings.

If you're interested in not only making money with surveys online but also publishing your own surveys for others to fill out there's some steps you can follow to get the best response possible. Lets just call these a few of the "Do's and Dont's" of online survey marketing research. First off, keep things simple. Making your surveys as easy and straightforward as possible will keep your customers or visitors happy, convoluted questions or a difficult to understand format will only complicate the process and scare off your visitors that were trying to get. Know your visitors and make them happy. Making your surveys clear and enjoyable to fill out will make them happy to participate in future ones as well, improving your overall level of quality feedback.

Another good thing to remember, do NOT lock visitors into a survey by making them mandatory. Nothing is more frustrating and off-putting than having a questionnaire forced down your throat, so to speak, and no way provided to get out of it. Give your visitors or customers a choice to leave the survey or to only fill it out by choice through a link on your page such as "Click Here to Tell Me What You Think!". And don't make your surveys too long, visitors are more likely to fill out a short and simple survey full of pinpoint questions than a long one with a lot of 'fluff' and unnecessary questions. You have a small window with which to work with and hold the visitors full attention, make the best use of it that you can.

Once you have your information, feedback, etc. make sure you actually respond to it. If a customer has a legitimate request or idea for your site or products, consider it, as it may be a great idea that you hadn't thought of yet. Make full use of the information you gather. Also, reward the participants in some way, maybe with a cash reward, discount or special gift through your site. Make them want to be a part of this! It'll pay you back tenfold in the end since you'll have a wealth of new and accurate knowledge to work with to improve your site, products or ideas.
