What is a blog? There are literally millions of them out there on the net. The term blog derives from 'web log', which eventually spawned the coined phrase, “blog”.

O.K., you say, but what is a blog? It's a log, or diary, or journal type publication that is maintained online. Anyone can get a free blog. Just search on Google for "free blog". I got 984,000,000 results! These free sites provide everything you need to get going. All you need to do is write!

Most blog sites provide a means for viewers to post their thoughts in response to yours. One smart idea is to add a subscription form on your blog, allowing readers to receive email notification of new postings. Another good idea is posting links to other sites you think your readers will find interesting. If you can manage reciprocal links, so much the better.

People use blogs in a variety of ways. Some people simply share their personal thoughts on their chosen favorite subject,

ranging from celebrities to cat lovers to philosophy.

Previously unknown writers have gained the attention of publishers through their blogs. Your writing samples, in blog format,

can showcase your talent in a profitable way. Poets can profit from a poetry blog in a variety of ways. Contacts with other

poets, and potential publishers are easy with a properly constructed blog.

Businesses take the "What is a blog?" question seriously, as blogs can be a subtle and effective profit source. Small businesses are fond of blogs, as they convey an online personality, giving their customers a sense of a real person, as contrasted with a sterile sales site.

Much like an ezine, a blog allows regular contact with customers. This adds up to increased sales. Statistics of online sales

show that it takes an average of seven visits to a site before a customer actually purchases. If you give your viewers news

they can use, that is conversational and engaging, your readership will grow, along with their trust, and thus your sales!

Journalists, or budding journalists, often use blogs to counter holes they perceive in the mainstream media. There are some

very interesting things going on in the world that you'll never hear a word about in the mainstream media. The Reporters

Without Borders organization this year held their first awards for "Freedom Blog Awards", highlighting blogs with a slant on

freedom of expression.

The question of "What is a blog" is open to interpretation. The topic you choose depends on your purpose. You'll find what

works best is a subject you are committed to and know.

What is a blog? Now you can answer with authority!

Owners of puppies know the challenges that they bring. They have to be toilet trained and taught not to chew slippers and

chair legs or to howl through the night. It's a difficult task but it's important to enjoy a puppy too. These baby animals

grow incredibly fast. Kittens also have to be trained, in the use of the litter tray especially. All the baby animals will

continue to delight us and sometimes make us cry.
