Some of the Most Memorable Science Fiction Characters

Science fiction often captures the hearts of children at a very young age. Our obsession with this world will often follow us into adulthood. Somehow, our favorite sci-fi characters bring back a bit of joy when we see them reborn in a new movie or see a rerun of an old TV show. This was a tough list to compile, but it should be tough to argue any of these roles for a short list of favorite science fiction characters.
Captain James T. Kirk - C'mon, you know you have said, "Spock, I need your help." In your best Captain Kirk over-dramatized voice a hundred times or so in your lifetime. We can watch these old episodes now and laugh as Kirk battles the blue villain and gets the green girl. However, at the time, these were groundbreaking technological wonders. While the show itself was a favorite, it was Kirk and his adventures that had everyone tuning in every week.
Neo - There are lots of characters to consider as the most influential in this genre, but The Matrix movies, and Neo in particular, introduced many people to sci-fi for the first time. Girls who would never have dreamed of watching a sci-fi movie were initially drawn to the movie because of Reeves, but the quality of the movie and Reeves' breakout performance as Neo is what kept everyone coming back for more.
Darth Vader - Yes, we all know Luke was the main star of the movie, but kids did not run around reciting his lines. What they did do was cover their mouth, breath hard and say, "Luke, I am your father." Vader helped launch this saga into the hearts of everyone who ever attended a movie. Think back to when the movie came out and how many kids went out for Halloween that year as Darth Vader. Actually, there are plenty of adults who still dress up as Vader!
Doc Brown - We can argue later as to whether the Back to the Future series qualifies as sci-fi, but for now, can we at least agree that Doc Brown is what made that brand so successful. Yes, Michael J. Fox was America's sweetheart at the time, but the appearance of Doc Brown on the screen is what everyone was waiting for when they went to see these movies. It would be hard to find anyone growing up while these movies were released that did not absolutely love Doc Brown.
I'm sure there are any number of characters that readers may find more memorable than the above, but these are some of the ones that stand out to me.
