The Adirondack Chair, What an Idea!
Back in the year 1903, one man, who had a summer home in the Adirondack mountains of Westport, New York needed some outdoor chairs for his family. And so, he set about designing a comfortable chair made with eleven pieces of wood out of one single board. The wood was set at an angle because of the inclines there in the Adirondack Mountains. Because of this incline and the heaviness of the wood, the chairs would not topple over when family sat in them.
Once he got his plans down pat and everyone in the family liked the chairs, he took those final plans to a friend of his who was also a carpenter needing to make money through out the winter, asking him to make the chairs. The carpenter realized the potential of a permanent business in this chair, so, unbeknownst to his friend, in 1905 he had the design patented and continued to make these wonderful chairs for the next 20 years. His chairs were all green and brown, made out hemlock wood, with his signature on them.
Today, this very versatile and fun chair is still very popular and made in wood shop in schools all across the country. Many people order the plans online to make the Adirondack chair for their own families because they are fun and easy to make. Then, they paint them in bright colors and sit them in their own yards. These adirondack chairs are strong and so relaxing to curl up in and read a book. Many restaurants have also found that they can use them as individual seating because customers can use the wide arms as a table for their food and beverages. This eliminates the need for single tables at the restaurants, saves space, and makes lounging guests very comfortable and relaxed.
Naturally, in these modern times, full use of the adirondack furniture has come to be. They are now made of recycled plastic in a multitude of fun colors, they can be folded and taken along with you on vacation when you go to the beach. Many times this is the first outdoor chair a little one sits upon and parents buy small ones so the children can be just like the grownups and have their very own chair.
Now, these chairs are also made into swings that you can attach to your porch. They are also made in rocker styles, and out of various woods that are resistant to insects, also formed with curved backrest and seat for ergonomic support. Like just about anything else, these wonderful chairs can also be ordered online and shipped right to your door.
Finding a need and filling it was what one man did. Becoming an entrepreneur and expounding on an idea is what another man did. Now, furthering the whole idea you can see these wonderfully comfortable chairs loved by everyone from the mountains where the Adirondack chair originated, to the sandy beaches on the other side of the country and beyond.
