Long-Term Guarantees

by Paul Cole

Money and budgets are just a part of life that is unavoidable. Even a child has to decide how to best spend their allowance. Once you become an adult with a more complicatde financial picture, it becomes even more important to understand how to use your money. Here are some ways you can improve your ability to keep track of your finances.

Being aware of the value of your possessions will make a huge difference in the way you choose to dispose of the item. You can definitely make money from apparently worthless stuff. That old coffee table turns out to be a vintage antique, for instance, or that baseball card collection has a Mickey Mantle rookie card tucked inside.

Many products out there have some kind of a warranty on them, and if something should go wrong with the product, it would tend to happen during the period of the warranty. The only one who benefits from an extended warranty is the warranty company, not you.

Families can pool their funds to buy major purchases that everyone can enjoy. For example, family members could all pitch in to purchase a large item that would benefit everyone in the household.

Try reducing non-essential monthly spending, rather than totally eliminating it. A good example of this would be dining out. If you eliminate this luxury altogether, you will likely not be able to stay committed for very long. Try to eliminate every other dinner out each month and you will be able to save and still have fun going out to dinner.

A credit score of 740 is what you should aim for if you are needing a mortgage. With a score in this range, you can net far better interest rates. If your credit score is not good, take all the time you need to improve it. Don't apply for a mortgage with bad credit unless it's absolutely unavoidable.

Be open to the idea of purchasing store brand items. Much of the time, you cannot tell the difference. This will allow you to enjoy the same taste and ingredients while saving money. Don't shy away from trying store brand foods. They can seriously lower your grocery bill.

To quickly lower your debt, pay off the accounts that carry the highest interest rates first. You may thin that you should pay your debt evenly but pay off things that have the highest interest first. It is important pay off your credit card debts first because credit card interest rates are rising.

If some of your debts are in collection, you should know that there is a statute of limitations for collecting on debts. Talk this over with an expert, and see if you can find out when your current debt will expire. If you can get this information, do not pay a dime to any collection agency.

Saving money is important to your finances. You may want to save money to purchase a large ticket item such as a TV or a relaxing vacation. Of course, you can't go wrong by putting away some money for your retirement. Regardless of your goals, saving money is an important part of every successful personal finance plan.

These tips will help anyone understand and shape their personal financial situation into a healthier, more productive situation.
