Also, check the status of the spare tyre as it may be needed when least expected.</p> <p>* Fluid Levels - Always check that you have suitable levels of fuel, oil and screen wash in the car and that your radiator has sufficient anti-freeze.</p> <p>* Lights - Remember that the nights draw in very early in the depths of winter, so your lights are absolutely vital to your safety. It would be advisable to change all the lamps at the front and back of your car just to be safe during winter. You don't want to be without them on a snowy motorway. A few spare lamps in the boot wouldn't be a bad idea.</p> <p>* Battery - Checking the condition of your battery is important during winter as it could stop it starting on a cold day. Most garages will check this for you, free of charge</p> <p>During winter, the weather can turn from settled to extremely treacherous at any moment. You could find yourself trapped on a motorway or country road miles from home at any time. In the result of such a scenario you should have the following emergency supplies in your vehicle at all times:</p> <p>* Additional warm clothes or blankets</p> <p>* First-aid kit</p> <p>* Torch</p> <p>* Ice scraper and de-icer</p> <p>* Battery jump leads</p> <p>* Food and water</p>
