It goes without saying the first place to start when starting a business is to come up with an idea.

What exactly do you have for sale and what is the best way to attract the people who will want to buy it? This has been the main focus of businesses both online and offline since the beginning of time.

If you already have an offline business you have a great place to start, even businesses that work primarily in the offline world will still benefit greatly from having an online presence.

There is however one common mistake offline businesses make when going online and that is to have a website offers little more than scanned information and directions to the store itself.

While you will get some use from a site like this it will not do much to further your business.

For businesses looking to take that leap from the real world to the digital one it is highly recommended to look at your site as a main part of your business rather than a little off shoot.

When you start a digital business from scratch it is imperative that the website should be up to standard and professional looking before you have a chance at people buying from you.

This is exactly the same for offline businesses going online, your website may be the first time a prospective customer has had contact with your business and if it is below par this is not going translate well for you.

If you are looking to start a business from scratch the most important thing you can do is research, what are your competitors selling? What do their customers think of the products? How much do they charge? Try Googling others who are selling similar products to the ones you want to sell and check out the quality and pricing as well as how the website is laid out.

Once that is done sit down and consider you can improve upon what your competitors are offering. Read the reviews carefully because in them people will tell you what they expected, what they want and certainly what they don't want. Your competitor's feedback is gold dust because the people within your target market is telling you exactly what sort o information they are looking for. Et Voila the product that makes your customers happy and you rich, it's nice when everybody wins.

Take a careful look at the websites while you are checking out your competition think about how easy you find it to use the site, is there anything you particularly like /dislike ? What mistakes can you spot?

Have a think about what you like to see on a website and use all this information to make your site standout. Keep calm and remember your business doesn't have to necessarily be unique in order to be successful, it just has to be the most appealing option to the customer than others on the market.

. Take notes on what your competition is doing as well as how they are doing it and aim to make it better. There's no need to reinvent the wheel to find success - but if you can package it better or get it out faster, that's a major step in the right direction!
