Is Darkness Freaking Out Your Child? Help Them to Overcome Such Fear!
Have you ever noticed your kid waking up in the night and crying? Quite possibly, it may be your nightmare that your child is somewhat frightful of darkness, and with this fear he or she may feel quite uncomfortable even getting in and out of home, certainly triggering your worry for them.
There was an 8-year-old girl, Khushboo who lived with her family of dad and mom. She had a terrific fear of darkness. Her parents often had to accompany her while sleeping. She even did not dare to enter her room alone, always preferring someone to accompany her. How sad! Her parents were really bothered a lot about herself; they didn’t think to keep her unattended when going out, even during a daytime.
Although darkness fear is very common with most of the children, somehow such phobia if remained unsolved can last for longer time, even at their adulthood; this can create major problems for them for their rest of the life too. Careful attention to such issue with clever ways of tackling it is broadly needed, and of course, the right approach will prove much favourable for you to keep your child away from this panic.
Look at a few tips to overcome your child’s darkness fear: Keep them out of dark: Never ever force your child to stay in dark, thinking that they may get used to it sooner; it can have some reverse effects, somewhat much worse. Instead, keep the lights on in their rooms. It will help them to stay alone, even soothing their lonely times during their night wake-up. Colourful room decoration helps them stay diverted from their fear and fall asleep easily.
In an event of a child sleeping in parents’ room, a light can be remained open in an adjoining home area. May be, you can use dim lights, initially having the main light on and replacing it with dim lights when your child goes snoozing.
Talk to them about their fear: Never try to underestimate their fears of the dark or them staying alone. They are imaginary; anything horrifying or upsetting that they see (maybe from horror flicks or similar events from real life) can keep them thinking and recalling when alone or in dreams; and darkness can really make their experience more terrible.
Don’t let others make a fun of your child for darkness fear, sometimes including yourself too. Listen to them, let them finish what they feel; may be it is the right moment you can explain them proper reasons for not to be worrying of the dark and getting over it instead.
Holiness Helps Them to Fight Their Fears: Teach your child good stories of God; explain them about God’s omnipresence. It will make them create a holy image in their mind. Show them how to do prayers just before going to bed at night. It would really work.
Give them a mental support: When your child is sleeping alone, try to be there, initially. Keep housing environment delightful; tell them positive stories, funny incidents and something they like the most. This will help them to go sleeping happily and remain asleep soundly throughout the night. Encourage their lonely sleeps by incentivizing them with some favours, most probably for every night they stay unaccompanied.
Such can also be the greatest exercise for your child to remove their darkness fear, and this is by just making them adapted to darkness, very carefully and gradually. Sit with them into dark room, talk to them; let the lights switched off until they remark it and increase their endurance against gloom!
Fear of something is rather a phobia that your child gets over a longer period of time, especially being unattended. Start breaking their barriers against such night enemy and help them to win it – at least up until the light overpowers the darkness!
