The Negative Calorie Diet - Increase Your Metabolism to Lose Weight
As a person who has never (until now) had to struggle with my weight, I was unprepared for the slowing of metabolism that seemed to hit the day I turned thrty five. It seemed as if overnight I could no longer eat anything I wanted and not gain weight. I was still exercising moderately, but my weight kept going up. When I asked my doctor about it, he said it was normal for a woman's metabolism to slow down in her mid thirties. Normal, maybe, but depressing and unacceptable to me!
After doing some online research, I came to a few conclusions. I could keep eating anything I wanted and keep getting bigger; I could dramatically decrease my calorie intake and increase my exercise routine; I could try one of the high protein or no carb diets. None of these options appealed to me, so I kept looking and finally found something I felt like I could live with.
Doing some research let me learn more about how our bodies process food - for instance, your body has to work harder to digest an apple than it does to digest a piece of pie or cake. Eating foods that make your body work harder increases your metabolism. As a result of my searching, I found something called the Negative Calorie Diet. There are so many foods that make your body work harder and increase your metabolism, I could not believe how easy it was. It has really worked for me, without my having to make a drastic change in the amount of food I get to eat. Now, I have gotten back to my "pre-middle age" weight.
There are many things weight loss programs do not tell you that make the process so much easier and rewarding:
*You don't have to be hungry when you are dieting - just pick foods that make your body work hard and you can eat as much as you want.
*You still need to exercise a couple of times a week. It helps your metabolism even more, boosts your mood, and is good for your heart, bones, and muscles.
*Avoid excessive alcohol intake - it lessens your ability to control what you eat.
These things seem to be common sense, but it would surprise you how many people are constantly dieting, yet wonder why it doesn't work. For women, it's very much about taking as good of care of yourself and you do of others. When I decided to take care of myself, I found I was much better able to take care of my family.
