Crime and Punishment Chap 18
In the last chap of Crime and Punishment, the protagoinst's mother and sister met with him in the apartment. The doctor said all was fine and the group engaged in calm conversation. However, Raskolnikov was still disappointed with Luzhin, Dunya's fiance. Raskolnikov thinks Luzhin is brainless and proud. Dunya does not agree with his reasons but still decides to test his fiance's devotion to her. The mom also forgives Raskolnikov for giving away the money to the poor family. The 4th chapter of the 3rd section of the novel begins as a woman named Sonya enters the room. All conversation ceases when Sonya enters. Sonya is the daughter of Marmeladov. Marmeladov was the drunk that was killed several days ago by a horse drawn carriage. The girl is very shy. She wants for Raskolnikov to go to the funeral of Marmeladov. There will also be a meal after that he is invited to. Sonya is astonished by how underdeveloped Raskolnikov is. She expected for him to be prosperous because he gave her a medium quantity of money. The mom and the female sibling quietly leave. Raskolnikov restarts his dialogue with Razumikhin. He informs him that he sold an item to the pawnbroker. Now that she is dead, he desires to be in ownership of the trinket again. We now learn that the police officer in charge of the the crime is called Petrovich. Funnily enough, he is a sibling of Razumikhin. Raskolnikov seeks advice from Razumikhin about recovering the watch. Razumikhin tells him they should converse with Petrovich. They travel to the man's apartment. Sonya also leaves. Strangely, a man follows the woman as she goes out the door. At the same time, the two men are now walking towards Petrovich's lodging. Raskolnikov now knows that Razumikhin is attracted too his sister. He teases Razumikhin about this and Razumikhin grows annoyed and embarrased. Raskolnikov is agitated meeting this officer.
