How to Find the Best Adult Drum Lessons
When I was younger, my mother told me that as long as I am studying, I will never really grow old. To my mind, that is equivalent to consigning myself to a life of boredom. Now, a little older and wiser, I realized that she was right. Being adult makes you wish you had made better use of your time, and learned some skills.
Some people never do these things while others go on to continue loving and learning. This is what many people feel about music. Some of us never had a chance to learn to play a musical instrument as children. It is as adults that we fulfil this dream. As for me, it's always been the drum I want to learn to play.
But the primary question was, how to find the right adult drum lessons for me? I started to do a bit of research and saw a lot of information about online lessons, teaching ones self, etc. However, these were not the right option for me, but it is right for some. The following is an analysis of the pros and cons of the different methods of learning the drums for adults.
The Teach Yourself Method
Some adults feel more comfortable learning at home. They can learn at their own pace and use videos and books to pick up the skills they need.
The only drawback to this method is that the learning process is slow, and you have to be extremely committed to learning to play the drums for this to be effective. It is very easy to get off schedule, forget about practicing or let your life events interfere with your learning process.
The Online Method
Now with the advent of technology lots of adults can obtain adult drum lessons online. For some people this works well because they get some support and there is a teacher or a lesson online anytime for them to access.
They can learn at their own pace and repeat lessons as often as they like. The only problem with this method is that it requires a great deal of discipline to learn this way and family obligations can interfere very easily. Of course, if you are a night owl, can't sleep and have a sound proof room in which to practice then this may be the method for you.
Private Adult Drum Lessons
Many of us love private lessons. In a private class you have a set schedule for learning and know that nothing can interfere with that music class. Another great advantage to the private class is the fact that there are no young players, no one to outdo you or out learn you.
You learn at your own pace and get the full attention from the teacher. The downside to the private class can be the cost. If you can afford a couple of classes a week then that is great. However, if you can't afford more than one class a week then this may not be the best option for you.
Drumming School
The next option on the list is drumming school. Here you will probably take a class with a few other learners, but you would be surprised at how much you might have in common with other learners. Just be sure to ask about the type of music taught and whether there will be pieces taught which you enjoy. In this option you get more than one class a week for a set fee. You get to meet other music enthusiasts and learn from them too.
Selecting the right drumming school is really up to you, and the lesson you choose will depend on your needs. Just think about your goals and determine the best way to achieve them.
